Girl with colourful artistic face painting at a birthday party

Face painting is almost always the first thing children ask for when I arrive. Each one picks what they want to be: a tiger, a butterfly, whichever superhero is current. They leave with a design painted by hand, not a transfer.

How it works

I set up a small station with a mirror in a quieter corner. Children come through during the party without interrupting everything else, I usually pair face painting with games, so those waiting are already occupied.

For large groups I adapt: faster line designs, or arm painting instead of faces. The point is that no child spends the party in a queue watching everyone else play.

Materials

All paints are water-based, hypoallergenic and certified for children’s skin. They wash off with soap and water at the end of the day without staining. If there is a known sensitivity, tell me beforehand and I will adapt.

Frequently asked

About face painting

What paints do you use?

Water-based, hypoallergenic paints certified for use on children's skin. They wash off with soap and water. Sponges and brushes are sanitised between parties and I use disposable applicators where it makes sense.

How long does a group take?

Around 5 to 8 minutes per child depending on the design. For 15 children allow about an hour and a half. For larger groups I suggest quicker line designs or a second painter, so nobody queues for long.

What if a child has sensitive skin or allergies?

Tell me before the party. I can patch-test a small area on the arm first, or paint the arm or hand instead of the face, an alternative children usually accept happily.

Shall we plan the best party for your family?

Tell me a little about the party and I will put together a programme that fits, date, place, ages and number of children is all I need to start.
